Teeth Whitening or Bleaching
Teeth whitening, also known as teeth bleaching, is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves the use of special gels, creams or laser light to lighten the color of the teeth and make them appear whiter. The goal of teeth whitening is to remove or reduce the appearance of stains and discolorations that can be caused by food, drink, tobacco, aging, and certain medical conditions.
There are several different methods of teeth whitening, including:
-
In-office whitening: This procedure is done at the dental office and typically involves applying a high-concentration whitening gel to the teeth and activating it with a special light. The procedure usually takes 1-2 hours.
-
At-home whitening: This method involves using a lower-concentration whitening gel that is applied to the teeth using custom-made trays. The patient wears the trays for a specified amount of time each day, typically for 2-4 weeks.
Teeth whitening is a safe procedure when done under the supervision of a dentist. It's important to note that the results of teeth whitening can vary depending on the individual, the type of staining, and the method used. Some people may achieve a significant improvement in the whiteness of their teeth, while others may see only a slight change.
Will Whitening work on all teeth and are there any side effects?
Some people will experience tooth sensitivity which is usually temporary. Tooth whitening will not work on crowns, fillings, and veneers. It may not also be effective against medications or tooth injury. Set up a consult with us to discuss which option is best for you
