Dental Cleanings

A dental cleaning, also known as a prophylaxis or teeth cleaning, is a routine procedure that is performed by a dental professional to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from the surfaces of the teeth.

At Tricity Smiles Dentistry in Chandigarh, we utilize the most advanced scaling and cleaning technology to help reduce sensitivity, decrease appointment duration, and increase patient comfort. We also offer air polishing for patients with heavy stains, to aid in the removal of pathogenic bacteria. After cleaning above and below the gumline, the teeth are polished with a special paste and a rotating brush to remove any surface stains and leave the teeth feeling smooth. Finally, we use floss to remove any debris between the teeth.

At Tricity Smiles Dentistry, located in Chandigarh, we prioritize preventive dentistry and use minimally invasive techniques to maintain optimal oral health. Our clinic is the best in the area and our top-rated dentist ensures that patients receive the highest quality of care. We recommend a yearly dental check-up to catch and address any potential issues before they become more serious

Regular Cleanings are safe and should be done every
6 months

Dr. Sandhu recommends a regular cleaning every SIX months inspite of proper home care. Regular brushing and flossing cannot completely remove plaque and bacteria from your tooth and gums and with the help of a regular cleaning, special ultrasonic instruments can help clean your teeth in a healthy and safe way.

Deep Cleanings are required to help prevent gum disease

In case you haven't been able to keep up with your regular dental cleaning appointments and your teeth show signs of gum disease, Dr. Sandhu might recommend a deep cleaning/scaling and root planning which is a more thorough cleaning under the gums and on the roots of the tooth.

Instructions to follow after cleaning

  1. Maintain good oral hygiene: Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and floss daily to remove plaque and food particles from between your teeth.

  2. Avoid food and drink that can stain your teeth: Avoid or limit consumption of foods and drinks that can stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, and red wine.

  3. Use a mouthwash: Use a mouthwash that contains fluoride to kill bacteria and freshen your breath.

  4. Use a tongue scraper: Use a tongue scraper or your toothbrush to gently scrape off bacteria and debris from the surface of your tongue.

  5. Rinse your mouth: You may be advised to rinse your mouth with salt water or a prescribed rinse to help reduce inflammation and promote healing after the cleaning.

  6. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products: Smoking and using other tobacco products can cause discoloration of your teeth and increase the risk of oral cancer and gum disease.

  7. Schedule your next appointment: Schedule your next appointment for a cleaning and checkup, usually 6 months after your last cleaning.

  8. Take care of any discomfort: If you experience any discomfort or sensitivity after your cleaning, you may be advised to take over-the-counter pain medication as directed and avoid hot or cold foods until the sensitivity subsides.

It's important to follow these instructions carefully to maintain good oral health and ensure that your teeth stay clean and healthy. If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to call us for help.
